The story behind this song begins with a couple we met (Don & Dena) at our regular Happy Hour gig at Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. After we got to know them a little bit, Dena told me that her granddaughter Ella, a high school senior, had written an essay about her grandfather. She asked if I would read it and possibly do something with it. The essay was rich with stories about her and her grandfather. Her words made it easy for me to relive those experiences with her and knowing her grandfather made it even easier.
